I enjoy your reflections. I tried looking at how many things there are in journalism and how many of them can be said to need practice, experience and trained skill. In other words is there any longer a definable activity called "journalism" at all? My answers are in this lecture: www.scribd.com/doc/28560140/George-Brock-Is-News-Over

Good post. It raises the question though whether, given its heterogeneity, the concept of "journalism" and the job title of "journalist" might be past being useful?

If you look at modern British journalism for example there are people whose jobs, as far as I can see, have almost nothing in common with the kind of stuff that traditionally makes the front page of British newspapers.

I'm thinking of some science, business and travel "journalists", etc. They will never write a front page story because it's not their job... but equally they would never hack some celeb's voicemail. Is it fair to lump them with those "journalists" who are getting hauled before Levenson?
